Do not let the Prologue put you off with its many cliches. The story takes a while to get going but if you persevere you will be engrossed in an irreverent, witty and wickedly satirical look at the art world.
The perfect read when waiting at the airport and on the plane.

Red Joan by Jennie Rooney Published by Chatto and Windus The inspiration for this book came from a newspaper article published in 1999 in The Times (snappily captioned 'The Spy Who Came In From The Co-op') in which Melita Norwood was identified at the age of eighty-seven as having been the most important and longest-serving Soviet Spy of the Cold War era. Ali Here is the perfect read for the autumn. Get the kettle on or crack open the fruits of your foraging i.e. Sloe Gin or Elderberry Wine. This is a story about right and wrong and how some time they look the same". There is a film of the novel which has should be reaching our screens very soon. Thanks to Moira who recommended this book to me ages ago. Enjoy. Ali Some thoughts on books I've recently read:
The Forgetting Time by Sharon Guskin Based on an interesting concept of the dead coming back in another person. Bit of a detective story in a way as a women tries to help her very strange 4 year old. Cartes from Greece - Victoria Hislop's latest book It did not enthrall me as her usual books do. I did like the lay out of the book with photographs though. Exposure by Helen Dunmore This was a very good mystery portraying the darker side of spying for the Russians in the 1960's .All based around an innocent family Lake House by Kate Morton A must read !!!!!! Three brilliant plots all entwined .Was gripped till the bitter end and still I didn't quite get it right So many books, so little time? If, like me, you have always had other tasks that seem to take precedent over sitting down for a long, luxurious uninterrupted read then read on………….. Material is available both in printed and electronic form and often available instantly when you reserve online. I often order a new publication and enjoy being the first to borrow a pristine hardback at no charge. When the book has not been to my liking I just send it on back and rejoice that I am not out of pocket. I know, you can call me a tight wad? Second-hand books are available through large online retailers such as Waterstones Marketplace and the one that begins with A. Charity shops are also a good place to look. I am sure I am preaching to the converted with all the above, so apologies if this is the case. I am setting the ball (book) rolling with three choices. No particular reason for this selection apart from one. Happy Reading tWI-lits Ali * You can add your thoughts/criticisms to the Comments section below the relevent book. If you wish to write a recommendation click here to send to it to us (please put twi-lits / book club in the email subject box so we can find it easily) and we'll do the 'technical' bit of posting it to the blog 😉.
