Mary Gwynn Visits Twilite
To a packed social club last night we were thoroughly entertained by Mary Gwynn.
She spoke about her life, family, how she became a food writer and then more famously was involved with the
TV programme “Back in Time for Dinner” (Click Here to View) and of course
the “WI 100 years Cookbook” for which she made an appearance as a guest judge on The Great British Menu ( Click Here to View).
She spoke passionately about family cooking and the way in which we all have favourite family recipes which many of us pass down through the generations.
We listened and laughed heartily to the advice given to women over the last 100years in how to prepare and cook for our men, families and of course dinner parties!
For example ....have a rest before you entertain guests as you will have a wonderful glow that your husband will appreciate!
I shall try and remember that “1950’s advice” next time I am puce in the face cooking for 25 on Boxing Day!
I am sure we could have listened to Mary talk for at least another hour as she is involved with her own WI as well as Farmers Markets and judging food competitions.
Footnote :
It was wonderful to welcome at least 25 WI members from our neighbouring WI’s to join us to listen to Mary.

BBC's Back in Time For Dinner
Mary Gwynn was the author of the companion book to this BBC series. If you missed it,,"Back in Time for Dinner" was a really interesting series exploring the British diet in each decade since the second world war. For some of us, a real slice of nostalgia Click here for a glimpse of 1970s innovations
